No, HDR is not just bright and colorful

Together with DoP Matthias Bolliger, our lead colorist Philipp Horsch gave a seminar on the topic of HDR at the Film Academy Ludwigsburg.

The 4 days covered topics such as film looks in HDR, textures and their handling, creative MTFs and much more. After a one-day introduction to technical theory, HDR-specific shots were shot on the Alexa 35 with LUTs created by the students themselves. The material was then worked on and reflected on together the following day. On Friday there was a brief insight into the topic of pastel as well as some insights into the look development of 'Para-Wir sind King' by Matthias. At the end of the seminar, we were able to examine the filmed, edited material on the film academy's large 'HDR screen'.
